The 14-Strong Turtle Community at Eri Maldives

Animal and wildlife lovers will want to hear about Eri Maldives, a resort where the turtle family isn't just part of the reef, it's part of the story.

Most resorts talk about their marine life in the abstract. At Eri, they know it by name. The turtle community here isn't just a highlight of the reef, it's an experience in its own right.

Tucked within the North Malé Atoll, Eri is home to 14 individually identified hawksbill sea turtles, each one logged and recognised by the resort's resident dive team through distinctive shell markings, flipper formations and carapace patterns.

There's Miss Torti, known for her saw-like shell margins and a distinctive split between her rear scutes; Hank, whose right hind flipper never fully developed, leaving a telling irregularity along his carapace; and Farfalle, whose spotted shell reads like a constellation map.

The newest addition to the records is Otto - Eri's first-ever green sea turtle sighting, and a quietly significant milestone for the reef's growing biodiversity story.

Several of the turtles have been named by guests themselves. Among them Rosie, Cara, Lubi and Waffle. The invitation remains open: any guest who spots a turtle not yet documented is welcome to name it, a small but genuinely meaningful way to leave something of themselves behind.

Turtley Awesome Day & A Month of Ocean Moments

The celebration doesn't stop there. In the following month, on World Sea Turtle Day (16 June), Eri will be marking the occasion with a Turtley programme, with the main highlight being a Turtle Search Snorkel with an educational briefing on turtle behaviour, ecology and conservation, running in the afternoon from 14:15 to 16:30.

This comes as part of a wider commitment to raising awareness for ocean care, with seasonal activations throughout a full calendar in June. On Reef Awareness Day (1st June), Eri's Reef Guardians Experience takes guests on morning and afternoon snorkelling safaris across some of the area's most pristine coral reefs, with briefings focused on coral life, rounded off with a complimentary Marine Life Quiz at the resort's Sip&Dip bar in the evening.

World Oceans Day (8th June) follows a similar spirit, with guided snorkelling safaris and adventures centred on the broader marine ecosystem, all part of a June programme that runs marine stewardship, education and wonder as a consistent thread throughout.
